Three in a family sentenced to jail for assaulting woman with disabilities

TAMPIN: A 56-year-old woman and her two sons were sentenced to jail by the magistrate's court in Gemas here today for assaulting a woman with disabilities.

Magistrate Kartini Kasran handed down the sentence against Siti Fatimah Abdullah and the two other accused after the three in the family pleaded guilty to the charges under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

The two other accused are Muhammad Taufiq John Abdullah, 24, and his 26-year-old brother, Muhammaddeni Iskandar, who is the boyfriend of the victim.

Siti Fatimah was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment and RM5,000, in default of 15 months' jail, after she was found guilty of hurting the victim using a spanner.

Muhammaddeni Iskandar was sentenced to three years' jail and two strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to assaulting and hurting the woman using pliers and cigarette butt as well as dousing her with petrol.

His younger brother, Muhammad Taufiq John was sentenced to two years' jail and RM4,000 in fine, in default of 12 months' imprisonment, after he pleaded guilty to hurting the victim using a broomstick.

Siti Fatimah and her two sons pleaded guilty of committing the offence at a house in Bukit Rokan Felda between June and Oct 23 this year.

Kartini ordered the sentencing against the accused to run from the date of their arrests.

Earlier during mitigation, Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Amirul Noor Hashimi asked the courts to impose deterrent punishment since the items used by the accused were considered as "dangerous weapons" and that the victim is a woman with disabilities.

All of the accused were not represented.
