Nurse discovers bomb attached to car; device destroyed by Selangor cops

KLANG: Police early this morning destroyed a bomb that was found attached to the underside of a nurse's Proton Saga in Kapar here.

The nurse, a woman aged 27, told police that she noticed something amiss upon hearing continuous beeping sounds while driving at about 10pm last night.

She said her uncle later checked the car and discovered an unidentified object under the vehicle's rear bumper.

Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said a team from the police’s Bomb Disposal Unit was despatched to the woman's house shortly after they received information on the finding.

After conducting a thorough inspection on the object, which had been taken off of the vehicle by the woman's uncle, the team confirmed that it was an improvised explosive device (IED).

"According to the nurse's statement, she was driving home after finishing her shift when she heard beeping sounds. Upon arriving at her house, she and her uncle started searching for the source of the sound before finding the object.

"Bomb experts who checked the object, which was about the size of a small mineral water bottle, confirmed that it had features of an IED, including a switch and explosive," Fadzil said, adding that the object was destroyed at about 2.30am.

He said police have launched an investigation into who assembled the bomb and planted it on the car, as well as the motive behind the incident.

The case had been classified under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and the Explosives Act 1957.
