SUNGAI PETANI: A robber made off with RM250,000 in cash after breaking into the office of a shopping complex at Kompleks Cayman 2, Jalan Pengkalan here today.

The incident occurred between 10pm last night and 10am today, after the shopping complex was closed for the day.

Kuala Muda deputy police chief Superintendant Saifi Abdul Hamid said police received a report on the incident this afternoon.

He said an executive at the shopping complex lodged the report after one of his staff alerted him of the incident.

“The man received a call from his staff at 10am today who told him that their office has been broken into.

“He went there to inspect and found about RM250,000 cash kept inside a safety box at the cashier officer was missing,” he said in a statement.

Initial investigation showed that the robber climbed into the office located on the first floor of the complex through a window.

The robber then ransacked the drawers and cupboards before drilling a hole on the safety box, where the cash was kept.

Saifi said police found a rope hanging outside the window, tools and also a pair of gloves believed have been used by the robber to break open the safety box.

He said the robber also cut the security alarm cable to the building.

“The robber also ran away with the surveillance camera and security video player,” he said.
