Repeat incident: Two shop units ablaze again after overnight inferno

SUNGAI PETANI: Two shop units caught fire again earlier today, after it was ablaze with six other shop units last night on Jalan Kuala Ketil, Pekan Lama Sungai Petani.

The second fire occurred in the early hours of the morning, nearly 12 hours after the initial blaze.

Sungai Petani Fire and Rescue Station chief, Deputy Fire Superintendent Ismail Mohd Zain, stated that the second fire involving two shop units was reported at 1.23pm today at the same location.

He mentioned that the firefighting operation involved 15 personnel from the Sungai Petani Fire and Rescue Department, assisted by the Volunteer Fire Brigade Sungai Petani and Bakar Arang.

"The fire involved two Class C shop houses at the location, and the estimated percentage of the fire is around 50 percent," he said in a statement today.

Ismail stated that in the first incident late last night, they received a call regarding a fire involving six shop units at 12.47 am.

He mentioned that 90 per cent of the affected shop houses were completely destroyed, while three others were only five per cent burned and were successfully saved with the assistance of the fire department.

"However, both fire incidents did not result in any loss of life or injuries. At this point, the cause and extent of the damage are still under investigation," he added.
