KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Immigration department detained 17 illegal immigrants during an operation codenamed “Ops Ikrar Mahir” at a sawmill in Pasir Mas today.
State Immigration director Wan Mohamed Saupee Wan Yusof said six of the detainees, who are from Indonesia, were arrested for possessing false Enforcement Cards, or E-cards.
He said the operation, jointly carried out with its headquarters in Putrajaya, was conducted at about 11am.
"An immigration team went to the sawmill after receiving information on the presence of illegal workers there. After conducting an inspection, they found that 11 foreigners did not have valid travel documents, and six others were in possession of fake E-cards," Saupee told a press conference here this evening.
He said their employer, in his 40s, will be called to provide a statement soon.
