PTG employee remanded for pocketing bribes from illegal bauxite miners

KUANTAN: A state Land and Mines Office (PTG) general assistant was ordered remanded for allegedly receiving between RM250 and RM500 in bribes to shield illegal bauxite miners from law enforcement officials.

Magistrate Humairah K.M. Haider issued the remand order against the 33-year-old man suspected of having taken the money to warn miners of any impending raids by the PTG.

The general assistant was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at an undisclosed location here at 12.05am today.

Humairah had allowed the seven-day remand application by MACC deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry this morning.

After proceedings, Fadhly said the remand begins today and expires on Aug 13.
