Kedah MACC remands administrative assistant over allegations of RM 5,000 bribe

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kedah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded an administrative assistant suspected of soliciting and accepting bribes to cancel a compound issued by an enforcement agency in Kedah.

The suspect has been remanded for six days starting from today (Jan 8) until Jan 13.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Muhammad Zul Hilmi Latif after the MACC's request at the Alor Star Magistrate's Court this morning.

According to a source, the male suspect in his 30s was arrested at 5:20pm yesterday while attending to give a statement at the Kedah MACC office.

"Based on the investigation conducted, the suspect is believed to have solicited and accepted a bribe of RM5,000 from a company in 2022.

"The money was allegedly received as a reward for canceling a compound issued by an enforcement agency against the company for not having a Certificate of Standards Compliance."

Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director, Soock Wee Ei Tem, when contacted, confirmed the detention of the suspect, and the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
