Twenty suspected bullies detained for assault of two of their schoolmates

KUALA TERENGGANU: Twenty students were detained for investigations into the assault of two boys at a vocational college here.

One of the victims is reportedly in critical condition at the Sultan Nur Zahirah Hospital in Batu Burok where the two were warded after the assault.

The suspects were brought to the magistrate’s court here where the police are applying for a remand to detain them further for investigations into the case.

The arrests followed a report lodged by the parents of a 16-year-old student who was one of the two victims yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar confirmed the case.

It is learnt that 20 students, bound the two boys with blankets before repeatedly beating them with blunt objects.

The suspects, believed to be seniors, had resorted to the drastic action after being displeased with the duo’s behaviour for refusing to take food from the canteen.

When met at the hospital ward, one of the victims said that he was awakened by screams from his schoolmate following the beating and had gone to investigate.

“I discovered him with his face was covered by a blanket before he was bashed up haplessly. The seniors then dragged me to be also beaten up for being a busy body and I later vomited,” he said.
