Two held for robbery at 24-hour convenience store

KOTA KINABALU: Police has arrested two suspects linked to an armed robbery at a 24-hour convenience store in Manggatal here.

The two were apprehended at Inanam Baru town and Kampung Labou here in separate raids on Wednesday last week.

The suspects aged 25 and 27 years old upon interrogation admitted to be involved in the robbery at 3.48am on Aug 28.

“Their modus operandi was pretending to purchase something before robbing. The suspects went in, bought snacks and ate them outside the premises before returning inside the store.

"They used a machete and knife to threaten the shop worker. They took 55 packs of cigarettes and RM200 cash before fleeing,” said district police chief Assistant Commissioner M Chandra.

Also confiscated were the motorcycle and the machete used during the robbery, he said.

Both suspects tested positive for drugs.

“The suspects were remanded for seven days until tomorrow,” he said.
