DAP man arrested for posting derogatory remarks against late father of M'sian leader

KUCHING: An special aide to State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen has been arrested for allegedly posting derogatory remarks against the late father of a Malaysian leader.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Amer Awal said the man was arrested when he was summoned to the Kuching district police station here at 4.15pm today.

Amer said the man was arrested following a report lodged against him at the Sekama police station here a few hours prior to the arrest.

"After scrutinising the content of the status posted by the man on his Facebook account, police decided to launch investigation into the matter.

"The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 for posting content, which is indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive in character with the intention to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person," said Amer in a statement.

Police, he said, had also seized the handphone of the suspect.

He said the suspect was released on police bail after his statement was recorded.

Amer, however, did not mention the identity of the suspect as well as the latter's political affiliation.

Chong via his social media account confirmed that the suspect was his special assistant Abdul Aziz Isa.

In the same social media posting the Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament also described the arrest made on Aziz as "the most ridiculous".
