Teacher held after student claims she was raped twice

KUCHING: A 51-year-old teacher was arrested yesterday after a Form Two student claimed she was raped twice this year.

The case came to light when the student, 14, related her woes to another teacher, who in turn, informed the victim’s mother.

The victim claimed the incident happened twice starting in August and sometime this month.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the victim claimed that the suspect would take her at a secluded spot in Siburan near here and raped her inside his car.

“The suspect was picked up by the police at his house in Tapah, Siburan near here about a few hours after the victim’s mother lodged a police report at about 5pm yesterday,” said Dev in a statement.

The suspect’s car has also been seized for forensic examination as part of the investigation into the case.

Dev added the suspect would be produced at the Kuching Court Complex in Petra Jaya near here this morning for remand.

The case, he said, would be investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and whipping.
