KOTA KINABALU: Police nabbed 20 immigrants who had no valid documents in a swoop across nine squatter colonies here.

The joint 9-hour operation saw the raiding party going door-to-door checking on the squatters at the colonies from 1am yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said all the illegal immigrants will be referred to the Immigration department.

“The operation was conducted to prevent the mushrooming of illegal squatters, vice activities and drug dens in the city district.

“Those involved in the operation had also marked the colonies for future demolition process to take place,” he added.

Among the colonies checked were in Luyang, Manggatal, Bukit Nenas and even one below the State Legislative Assembly building.

Chandra said the operation involved those from City Hall, Rela and National Security Council.
