Ayob Khan: More than 10 colonies of undocumented immigrants identified

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified more than 10 colonies of undocumented immigrants and plan to conduct their operations in due time, said Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The deputy inspector-general of police said the operations would not only focus on the Klang Valley but extended to other states too, including Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Sabah.

Ayob said their main focus now is on businesses that are run by the undocumented immigrants.

"In the Jalan Silang operation, our focus was on businesses run by immigrants and that is our target.

"(In that operation) we have detained more than 1,000 immigrants to check (on their status) and we would be taking action against about 600 of them.

"But our focus now is on business premises run by immigrants and we would then move into the colonies of the undocumented immigrants," he told the media after witnessing a handing over ceremony at the KL police academy, here, today.

Ayob added that the police have had some restrictions in terms of their detainment at immigration depots and information leaks.

"In a lot of our previous operations on their colonies, there are a lot of leaks of information.

When we arrived (at the location), it appeared that they had fled the day before.

"So the next time, we would inform the media at the very last minute (to prevent information leaks)," he said.

Last week, a massive operation commenced at 11am on Jalan Silang, with about 60 premises in that location and around the Kota Raya Complex being inspected, resulting in the detention of 1,101 foreigners for checks.

This operation followed reports and complaints from residents feeling uneasy and uncomfortable due to the dominance of foreigners, with some becoming increasingly arrogant towards locals.
