Man engaged in shouting match with DBKL officers remanded

KUALA LUMPUR: Police obtained a three-day remand order against a man who engaged in a shouting match with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement officers and bystanders in Cheras over traffic infraction.

A source close to the investigation revealed that the remand order which started today was obtained from a magistrate's’ court to facilitate police probe over the incident which went viral recently.

The case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum two years’ jail, a maximum RM10,000 fine or bot, upon conviction.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Chong Kok Sin confirmed the remand order which will end on Sept 29.

The four-minute video showed the man clad in a a striped shirt, accompanied by an older female companion, screaming furiously at two uniformed men believed to be Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) officers.

It was learnt that the drama was due to the officers clamping his car for parking illegally, believed to have taken place outside the Cheras Leisure Mall.

The video also showed the man challenging the duo to take off their uniforms and fight.

Two women believed to be the man's family members tried to hold the man back but their efforts were futile. The man went to his car to retrieve a stick, before squaring up to one of the DBKL officers.

The video then showed his vehicle (a sliver Perodua Myvi) which appeared to be clamped, but the car was soon freed of the device by another man.

The video has since gone viral, racking up more than 30,000 views and had been shared almost 300 times by netizens.
