Shah Alam police nab Indonesian over gruesome murder of carpet seller

SHAH ALAM: Police on Tuesday arrested an Indonesian labourer suspected of murdering a carpet seller for allegedly having an affair with his wife earlier this month.

The burnt remains of the Pakistani victim were found near a Shah Alam water pump house in Padang Jawa on Sept 18.

The 32-year-old suspect was picked up at a house in Kampung Jawa here at about 4pm to facilitate a probe under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said police also seized several sharp weapons which they believe were used in the murder of the Pakistani victim.

"Following leads obtained during the course of our investigation, a team from the Shah Alam police Serious Crime Division raided a house in Kampung Jawa, Section 16, at about 4pm on Tuesday.

"Police arrested the suspect… and seized three sickles, a knife and an axe," he said in a statement today.

Shafien said the man had been using the house as a hideout after the murder.

He said police, however, did not find the suspect's wife. They believe that the woman went into hiding following the incident.

On Sept 18, police were alerted by members of the public to the remains of a man, later identified as 25-year-old Ali Amjad, at about 1.30pm.

Checks revealed that the victim had sustained at least one stab wound to his stomach.

The remains were identified by a relative who recognised the victim's steel implant in his leg, which was fitted following a road accident several years ago.
