2 including girl's mother to be charged tomorrow with forcing daughter into prostitution

LAWAS: A 30-year-old woman will be charged at the District Office here tomorrow with forcing her underage daughter into having sex with an unidentified man.

The woman will be prosecuted together with a karaoke centre operator, 45, who had allegedly conspired with the former, ito commit the offence.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar confirmed that the two women would be produced the district office tomorrow morning.

“This is my personal commitment. We are committed to arrest and charge before the remand expires in relation to cases involving social offences especially against children,” Dev said in a statement today.

He also said police has arrested a 29-year-old man to assist police probe into the case

He was the fourth suspect to be arrested in connection with the case.

“The man surrendered himself at the Lawas police station today about noon. The police will obtain a remand against the suspect tomorrow,” he said.

On Oct 11, police arrested the third suspect, a wireman, 24, who was the victim's uncle, in front of a restaurant in Jalan Sungai Trusan here at 9.30pm.

He has been remanded for a week until Oct 17.

The victim, who was accompanied by a village head, lodged a police report on Oct 8 claiming she was forced into having sex with an unidentified man.

She claimed she was forced by her mother and her employer, the karaoke centre operator, into having sex with the man for a payment of RM1,000 at a hotel here sometime in April. She claimed she was raped three times at the hotel.

The victim, who was a school dropout, also claimed that she saw the man paying RM1,000 to the karaoke centre operator.

The victim’s mother and her employer were arrested the same day the report was lodged.
