Police cripple 3 local drug syndicates in the Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have busted three local drug syndicates with the arrest of five men and two women in separate operations last week.

City Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Adnan Azizon said police also seized cash and drugs worth RM38,500.

In the first operation on Thursday, he said, a team from the Wangsa Maju Narcotics Department detained a 27-year-old man at a hotel in Jalan Metro Pudu 2 here.

He said checks revealed that the man possessed two packets of drugs believed to be methamphetamine weighing 50.68g.

The two packets of drugs were worth about RM6,800.

“The man has been remanded for six days from Oct 20 to Oct 25,” said Adnan during in a press conference here.

He said in the second operation, a team of policemen from the Sentul Narcotics Department arrested two men aged 58 and 46 at a cafe in Jalan Kuching on Friday, following a tip-off.

It is learned that the two men were caught red-handed as they were negotiating a drug deal.

“The team seized three packets containing 1,000 pills believed to be ecstasy and cash worth RM1,000,” he said, adding that the pills were worth about RM30,000.

The suspects, said Adnan, then led the police to a condominium unit in Jalan Kuchai Lama, where police arrested a 41-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman.

Adnan said police seized RM147,000 in cash believed to be the product of illegal activities, although no drugs were discovered.

All four were remanded for seven days from Saturday to Friday, he added.

In the third operation on Saturday, Adnan said a team from the city police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department arrested a man and a woman, aged 29 and 36 respectively, at a hotel in Jalan Kepong.

“Police discovered 20 foils containing 200 pieces of Erimin-5 pills and a packet of ketamine worth RM1,700. A Mini Cooper worth RM60,000 was also seized,” he said.

Adnan said police have obtained a six-day remand order against the duo from Sunday to Friday.

All cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty by hanging if convicted.

Adnan said between January and October this year, police seized 35,000 ecstasy pills worth RM 1 million and about 40,000 Erimin-5 pills worth RM588,000.
