56 rounded up in Hulu Terengganu anti-drug operation

HULU TERENGGANU: A 14-year-old school dropout was among 56 drug addicts and dealers arrested as part of the integrated 'Ops Perdana Fasa 2’ carried out in Kuala Berang here on Wednesday.

The operation was jointly-conducted by personnel from the Kuala Berang police station and the state National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in the early morning hours.

Up to 47 detainees were referred to the AADK for further investigation, while the rest were handed over to the police for inspection.

The operation began with a raid at a shophouse where a man in his 30's was arrested at 3.30am.

"Our men managed to find 980 stimulant pills worth RM9,800 from the unemployed suspect," district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud said on Friday.

He said the man has a criminal record, and is believed to have been distributing drugs in the Kuala Berang area.

"The man, who tested positive for drugs, was taken to the Kuala Berang police station for further investigation," Adli added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking.
