Drugs worth RM210k seized from Malaysian at Woodlands checkpoint

SINGAPORE: Singapore authorities seized drugs worth more than RM213,900 (S$69,000; S$1=RM3.10) at the Woodlands checkpoint from a Malaysia-registered car on Tuesday.

On that day, about 10.20pm, an Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer ordered the arriving car, driven by a lone 28-year-old Malaysian man, for further checks.

During the course of checks, officers from ICA and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) uncovered a total of four bundles from within the car.

The bundles were later found to contain about 616 gm of ‘Ice’, 29 gm of Ketamine, 590 Erimin-5 tablets and 20 Ecstasy tablets, the authorities said in a joint statement issued here today.

Following further investigation, the suspected intended recipients of the drugs, a 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old man, both Singaporeans, were arrested in the vicinity of Bedok North Street 1 in the pre-dawn hours of Nov 8.

CNB officers found about 10 gm of ‘Ice’, 4 gm of Ketamine, 21 Erimin-5 tablets, 5 Ecstasy tablets and drug paraphernalia from the car driven by the 32-year-old man.

“Investigations are on-going,” said the authorities.

The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of methamphetamine trafficked exceeds 250 gm. -- BERNAMA
