Gang leader and wife arrested for trafficking 23.7kg of marijuana

BATU PAHAT: A young newlywed couple were detained by the police for drug trafficking on Monday week after their wedding reception.

The 26-year-old groom, who had been identified as the Doyok Gang leader and his 23-year-old wife were arrested when police raided a house in Kampung Sungai Dulang Darat, Rengit.

Batu Pahat police chief Abdul Wahib Musa said they had also detained two other people, who is the groom's 24-year-old sister and 24-year-old male cousin for their alleged involvement in the couple's drug operation which started early of this year.

In the 11.30pm raid, police have also seized 24 packets of marijuana kept in three boxes, which were stacked together with the couple's wedding gifts.

The drugs weighing 23.7kg with estimated worth of RM72,000 were believed to have been smuggled from Thailand to be sold in Batu Pahat and Pontian.

"We believe all of them are part of an organised crime gang since the groom who works as a lorry driver has been identified as the the Doyok Gang leader," he said.

Wahib said only the groom and his male cousin were tested positive for drugs. All four did not have criminal record, he said, adding that they were being remanded for one week.

Police, he said, had also seized a Proton Wira car and RM300 cash during the Monday raid.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
