Major drug bust on Plus Highway: Selangor police seize 115.7kg of marijuana, arrest four suspects

SHAH ALAM: Police have confiscated 20 parcels of drugs believed to be marijuana in a bus express in a bust that was conducted two days ago.

Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam said four men were apprehended by the police related to the case.

"On Dec 18, 2023, at approximately 11.55pm, a police team from the narcotics crime investigation department of the Selangor contingent police headquarters successfully apprehended four local men on the side of the Plus highway near a petrol station in the Kuala Lumpur area.

"An inspection inside a Nissan Almera car revealed one box containing 10 parcels of believed to be marijuana weighing about 10.3kg.

"Following that, one of the suspects directed the raiding team to a parked express bus nearby. Police then seized five more boxes, each containing approximately 20 compressed pieces of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, weighing about 105 kg in the bus storage compartment," she told reporters today.

Sasikala said the overall seizure in this case amounts to 110 parcels of suspected marijuana, estimated to weigh 115.7 kg, valued at approximately RM358,899.

She also said all four men arrested were locals aged between 32 and 54 years.

"The first suspect works as a bus driver, the second and fourth suspects are involved in the food catering business, while the third suspect is unemployed," she added.

"Only the second suspect has no record, while the others have drug and criminal records.

Sasikala also said the initial urine screening test resulted in the second to fourth suspects testing positive for THC (marijuana), amphetamine, and methamphetamine, while the first suspect tested negative.

She said the seizure in this case includes cash amounting to RM1,100.

"The seizure of approximately 115.7 kg of marijuana can supply about 23,155 addicts for a day, taking into account a daily consumption of 5g.

She said all four suspects are remanded under Section 117 of the criminal procedure code for seven days from Dec 19 to 25, 2023.

"The case is investigated under section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs act 1952. if convicted, the offence carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 15 strokes of the cane," she added.
