Dutch model's father doubts his daughter's death was an accident

KUALA LUMPUR: The father of a Dutch model who was found dead and naked on the sixth floor of a condominium, expressed doubts that her death was an accident.

In a report by Dutch NL Times, her father Marcel Smit had also claimed Ivana had bruise marks on her neck.

Ivana was found dead on the balcony on the sixth floor of the apartment in Jalan Dang Wangi on Thursday afternoon where she had stayed with an American and his wife from Kazhakhstan on the 20th floor.

Smit had also claimed that neighbours heard shouting and arguments on the 20th floor.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah had said police are engaging with the Netherlands Embassy in Malaysia to meet with victim’s parents who arrived on Sunday.

“We have yet to interview the victim’s parents as they could not speak English. We are arranging for an interpreter to help record their statement before the body is released.

“The family members are planning to bring her body back to the Netherlands,” he said when contacted last night.

Shaharuddin said although police had classified the case as sudden death but would reclassify the case if criminal elements were involved.

He also called on those with information on the case to step forward to help the police in their investigation.

It was reported that Smit, who has dual Dutch and Belgian citizenship, was found naked at the balcony of a sixth floor unit in the condominium. She had reportedly fallen from the 20th floor.

Smit was the second runner-up in the Malaysia Supermodel Search 2014, when she was 15 years old.
