Murder suspect brought to Tanjung Sepat crime scene where family of four died

KUALA LANGAT: The main murder suspect in a fire where a family of four in Tanjung Sepat were found dead was brought back to the scene of the crime.

His presence attracted a large crowd at the fishing village that was shocked with the murder of Chia Tee Nang, 73; his wife, Lim Mai Shak, 68; and their two grandchildren on Wednesday morning.

The 38-year-old suspect, who has speech and hearing impairment, was escorted by a team of investigators at the crime scene located along Jalan Tepi Laut, here, at about 11am.

Clad in a lock-up attire, the suspect, believed to be the boyfriend of the elderly couple’s only daughter, was handcuffed, wore a camouflage fishing hat and a facial mask.

His right hand was wrapped in bandage, believed to be due to the injuries he had sustained when he allegedly torched the house following a financial dispute with the family.

The fire incident shook the quaint and serene fishing village and was described as the worst in the neighbourhood's history.

Selangor criminal investigation department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said his investigators spent two and a half hours with the suspect at the scene.

"We took the suspect to the scene as part of our ongoing investigations. This is to assist us as we to go deeper into the case. My men also had with them a sign language interpreter to communicate with the suspect," he said.

Fadzil, however, declined to reveal further on the details and progress of investigations.

Over at the Banting Hospital, the victims' bodies were claimed by family members at about 1.30pm.

A wake is being held at a family member's house and the funeral is expected to take place on Tuesday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor had yesterday said they believe the case was solved with the arrest of the suspect, who is a furniture factory worker, on Friday at 1am.

The suspect was arrested at a shoplot in Taman Pusat Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, by a team of investigators from the Selangor police contingent Serious Crimes division.

A seven-day remand was subsequently obtained from the Kuala Langat court.

Mazlan was quoted as saying, "The man, who has no past criminal record, was believed to have acted alone. It was a one-man show."

Mazlan had said that investigations are ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder after criminal elements were detected in the case.

Investigations revealed that there was an argument at the house over financial matters such as loans which had pushed the suspect to commit the crime.
