Two men charged with running brothel in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were charged in the Sessions Court here, today with managing a brothel.

Tay Thian Chuan, 45, and Tay Leong Hee, 52, pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 373(1)(a) of the Penal Code before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd.

Noor Hafizah ordered both accused to pay RM20,000 bail each with one local surety. The accused were also ordered to hand over their passports and to report to the Immigration Department once a month.

The court fixed Jan 10, 2018 for case management.

Deputy public prosecutor Fazril Sani Mohamed Fadzil appeared for the prosecution while both accused were represented by counsels Datuk Chau Chin Tang and Adrian Cham.

On Nov 23, Thian Chuan and Leong Hee were arrested by a Sabah immigration enforcement team during a raid on hotel rooms here. The team also rescued 17 women who were kept in six rooms.

The enforcement team seized RM11.88 million in the room, where the two accused were detained. The operation led the team to a nearby apartment, where another RM1.17 million was confiscated.

Following the first raid, the immigration enforcement team nabbed another three men from the same hotel and seized another RM1.45 million on Nov 28.
