Police cripple drug syndicate with arrest of three men

KOTA KINABALU: Police have crippled a drug syndicate actively operating here and in Penampang following the arrest of three local men in separate raids yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the three raids were conducted between 11am and 4pm based on intelligence from the state's narcotics criminal investigation division.

The first and second suspects, aged 32 and 42 years old, were arrested in this district while the third one, a 42 year old, was arrested in Penampang area, he said in a statement.

The first and last suspects had tested positive for drugs, and the last suspect also had a criminal record for self-administration of drugs.

“The first suspect was found in possession of 308 grammes of ketamine, 380 ecstasy pills, and 28 juice packets of various brands believed to contain drug in powder form weighing 732 grammes.

“The second case saw 41 ecstasy pills seized, as well as one packet of ketamine weighing 2.98 grammes and three erimin 5 pills.

“In the last case we seized four juice packets of various brands believed to contain drug weighing 31.5 grammes, one packet of plant matter believed to be cannabis weighing 5.93 grammes, one ecstasy pill and two erimin 5 pills,” he said.

The total market value of drugs seized was estimated at RM42,425. A Perodua Viva car was also confiscated as well as RM1,000 cash.

The suspects were all remanded for seven days. The first two were being investigated for drug trafficking while the last caught in Penampang was being investigated for possession of drugs as well as trafficking.
