Seremban football coach remanded in MACC match-fixing probe

SEREMBAN: An amateur football club coach here who was arrested on Friday by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged match-fixing has been remanded for five days starting Saturday.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Rahimah Rahim, following an application by MACC prosecuting officer Mohd Khairi Abdul Karim at the Special Remand Court on Saturday morning.

The remand order is to facilitate the MACC's investigation on the 40-year old coach under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

The New Straits Times reported on Friday that the coach was detained at the state's MACC office while he was there to testify at 3pm.

He is believed to have paid between RM80 and RM100 to all his players and team officers to ensure that they lose in the People's Football League in Nov last year.

A source said the coach’s team was badly defeated in the match with a team from another district, raising suspicions which led to an MACC report being lodged.

When contacted, MACC's senior director of the Investigation Department, Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani, confirmed the arrest of the coach, but declined to elaborate on the case.
