MACC obtains four-day remand extension against Warisan's Peter Anthony

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a remand extension of four days for Parti Warisan Sabah’s vice president Datuk Peter Anthony to assist its probe into a dubious RM155 million land deal in Sabah.

The order was issued by magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie following an application by the Commission, which will take effect on Tuesday.

Peter, 46, was detained last Friday after providing a statement to the MACC and was remanded for three days until Monday.

He is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting a bribe.

The politician arrived at the magistrate’s court at about 8.30am and was transferred to another court at 9.15am.

Peter's counsel, Martin Tommy, said his client is not in good health, but the court decided to carry on with the prosecution.

MACC’s prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basirudin represented the Commission.

Last week, the MACC announced that they were looking for Peter and Michael Persius Ubu, 61, to facilitate an investigation into the purchase of land in Tongod, Sabah, between 2015 and 2016.

Peter was previously arrested on Oct 5 and was released on bail on Oct 13.

He was among 13 people remanded by the MACC to facilitate another probe into the misappropriation of rural project funds for Sabah.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki said there has been no update on the whereabouts of Michael.
