Suspected church and temple vandal detained

KĶOTA BARU: Police have arrested a 34-year-old staff of Pasir Mas hospital for suspected involvement in vandalising a church and a temple at Jalan Hamzah on Sunday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said the man was detained at his home at about 1am today.

"A police team went to the man's house as he was first suspected to be involved in a hit-and-run incident in Pasir Mas on Sunday. Then, he was detained on suspected involvement in drug abuse.

“After more checks on him, police believe that he may have also been involved in the church and temple attack," he told a Press conference here.

Hasanuddin said an initial investigation showed that the man had been under stress after his parents died.

"Police also believe that he suffers from hallucinations," he said.

Hasanuddin said the man who had no criminal record, was remanded for four days beginning today to facilitate investigations into the case.

The Methodist church and Hindu temple were vandalised on Sunday, as the windows were broken with water filter tanks.
