Police detain 2 men over vandalism of cars, houses

KUALA LUMPUR: The police detained two men aged 23 in the city centre yesterday on suspicion of vandalising cars and houses using red paint in Taman Selaseh Phase 2, Batu Caves, here on Jan 25.

It is believed that the men were acting on behalf of loan sharks.

Acting Gombak district police chief Superintendent Abang Kaderi Abang Wasli said one suspect had a history of theft and drug abuse.

"Urine tests confirmed that both suspects were positive for methamphetamine.

"During the raid, the police seized two mobile phones, a laptop computer with a printer, transparent plastic, four pieces of notes containing loan repayment threats, two red paint cans, four empty cooking oil bottles, three helmets and a black Yamaha LC 135 motorcycle reported missing in Dang Wangi," he said today.

Abang Kaderi said the Selayang magistrate's court has granted a four-day remand against the men from Feb 7 to Feb 10.

The police also urged the public to refrain from engaging in unlawful activities.

Previously, the police confirmed receiving a report from a 31-year-old man, who claimed his car was vandalised with red paint by a loan shark in Taman Selaseh.

Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohammad Nasir said the investigation revealed that the incident occurred at 3.50am and was believed to have targeted a resident in the neighbourhood.

Noor Ariffin said two house gates and three vehicles had been doused with red paint.
