JOHOR BARU: Marine police here seized 146 cartons of contraband cigarettes during a raid at a small shed in Ulu Tiram on Thursday night.
Region 2 Marine Police commander Assistant Commissioner Paul Khiu said that the operation was conducted by a team from Pengerang, following a period of surveillance.
"Nobody (was at) the shed during the one-hour observation.
“The team decided to break the door of the shed and found the cigarettes hidden in several boxes," Khiu said in a statement.
He said the cigarettes are valued at RM13,888.73.
"The cigarettes have been confiscated for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 135 (e) of the Customs Act 1957," he added.
