KUANTAN: A bogus policeman has been remanded for five days starting Friday for allegedly outraging the modesty of a 17-year-old girl.
The suspect, who posed as a cop called “Sergeant Faiz”, was issued the remand order at the Cameron Highlands district police headquarters.
This was after the 32-year-old was remanded for 12 days at the Raub district police headquarters for allegedly kidnapping Nur Syaminn Nabila Mohd Shapawi and for impersonating as a public servant.
The man is the prime suspect in the abduction of Nur Syaminn, who went missing from her home at Kampung Ulu Gali in Raub on Dec 27 last year.
Cameron Highlands police chief Deputy Superintendent Hasadid A. Hamid said the suspect, who hails from Taman Bukit Indah in Bentong, would be investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging the modesty of an underage girl.
Meanwhile, Raub police chief Superintendent Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the investigation into the abduction and the suspect’s impersonation of a public servant has been completed.
He said the investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
“However, we are still investigating his (alleged) involvement in a cheating case in this district (Raub) under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
“After his remand period at Cameron Highlands district police headquarters is over (on Jan 16), we will bring him back here (Raub district police headquarters),” said Mohd Zahari.
It was reported that the suspect had asked Nur Syaminn's mother for permission to allow the victim to retrieve a motorcycle he had purchased in Sungai Ruan on Dec 27.
The man — who had allegedly impersonated as police sergeant based at the Sungai Ruan police station — purportedly met both Nur Syaminn and her mother at their house at 11am before abducting the girl.
At 3pm the same day, Nur Syaminn called her mother to say that she was with the suspect in Gua Musang, Kelantan, before the line went dead.
The teenager was found safe at a bus station in Raub at 11.05am on Dec 29.
Following a 10-day manhunt, the suspect was nabbed by police at a hotel at Jalan Dr Nazrin Shah in Ipoh at 2.05am on Jan 6.
