Police cripple drug syndicate, arrest 3, seize RM4m worth drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug syndicate was crippled when three of its members were arrested and more than RM4 million worth of drugs seized in two separate raids.

The syndicate was believed to have marketed its drugs in instant drink sachets or loose pills to visitors at entertainment outlets in the Klang Valley.

Acting on a tip-off, police detained a couple travelling in a Perodua Bezza at Jalan Kuchai Maju 1 at 9.20pm on Monday.

Checks by the team revealed there were 10 packets of ecstacy worth about RM3,000 stashed in the car.

City police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the couple then led the team to their house in Taman Salak Selatan, where more drugs were found.

“The team seized 308 packets of ecstacy, 800 erimin-5 pills, a packet of cannabis weigh 10 grams, three sticks of cannabis-filled cigarettes and 20 packets of ketamine,” he said, adding the drugs seized were worth RM175,350.

Further checks, said Mazlan, revealed that the couple had links with a syndicate responsible for distributing various types of drugs at entertainment outlets in Klang Valley.

Less than 24 hours later, the team traced a condominium unit near Sunway Damansara which was used as a store for the syndicate to store the drugs.

Mazlan said police nabbed another man, who was tasked to guard the “store”.

“At the apartment, powdered ecstasy weighing 38.2kg and nine packets of ketamine were discovered.

“The estimated value of drugs seized at the second raid was about RM3.8 million, bringing the total amount of drugs seized in both raids to more than RM4 million,” he said.

The drugs, which were packaged in sachets, could be sold up to RM300 per pack, which could make a litre of drink.

The pills were sold at RM30 each.

If it were marketed, the drugs seized could be used by 127,336 people.

Mazlan said police were still tracking down other members of the syndicate.
