MRSM deputy principal arrested over possible abuse of power

SHAH ALAM: A deputy principal with Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kuala Kubu Baru has been remanded for seven days to assist a probe into possible abuse of power.

The woman’s son aged 24, as well as an owner of a company, aged 40, were also remanded.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested the 40-year-old deputy principal yesterday for allegedly awarding a supply contract to a crony.

Her son and the businessman were also nabbed for alleged involvement in the supply of essential items meant for MRSM Kuala Kubu college students.

The remand order was issued by Shah Alam Court Magistrate, P. Sarulatha, after allowing an appeal from the MACC.

It was reported that the trio were detained between 4.30pm and 7pm yesterday.

Sources had revealed that the deputy principal had allegedly abused her powers by awarding the contract for the supply of essential student items to a company via direct negotiations between 2016 and 2017.

Sources said it was believed that the contract during the period amounted to about RM79,000.
