Cops probing spread of fake news claiming discovery of 'mutilated bodies' in Kudat

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have launched an investigation into the spreading of a fake news report claiming that authorities have discovered two decapitated, limbless bodies in Kampung Longgom, Kudat.

State police commissioner Datuk Ramli Din refuted the claim and said that action will be taken against those responsible for disseminating the false story.

“The investigation is being carried out under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code/ Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for spreading rumours with the intention to cause fear or panic.

“This section provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both (if convicted),” he said, adding that the public should refrain from sharing unverified information.
