Probe if CheguBard is being paid to spread fake news, says Umno man

KUALA LUMPUR: Police need to investigate whether individuals like Badrul Hisham Shahrin, also known as CheguBard, are being paid to make up false stories.

"Are there parties willing to cover their legal costs if they are sued? This is why they dare to spread false stories," said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.

He said the police must conduct a thorough investigation and take stern action against those attempting to tarnish the reputation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"This follows a police report filed by the Palace against a video by CheguBard claiming that three top leaders of Perikatan Nasional (PN) were summoned to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday," said Puad in a posting on his Facebook page.

Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid confirmed receiving a police report on Chegu Bard's allegation.

"This has gone too far as this fabricated narrative has repeatedly been associated with Istana Negara.

"This is due to the fact that some PN leaders themselves are not assertive and rather audaciously endorse this baseless tale," said Puad.

He added that PN leaders must step forward to deny their involvement.

"Enough with the efforts to change the government before the 16th general election."
