KLANG: Two men suspected of splashing red paint on the Port Klang house of a Customs officer on Dec 9, last year have been remanded for four days to assist in investigations.
The duo arrived at the Klang magistrate’s court here on Thursday, escorted by police.
Assistant registrar Azimah Yusof granted the remand order at about 10am against the duo, aged 48 and 49.
They were remanded for four days (from Feb 1 to Feb 4) and will be probed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage to property, which carries a jail term of up to three months or a fine, or both, if convicted.
The two men were arrested on Sunday by Putrajaya police on suspicion of torching four cars belonging to another Customs officer in Putrajaya on Jan 23.
They were subsequently remanded for three days for investigation under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
The duo is now also suspected of vandalising the house of the 47-year-old Port Klang senior Customs officer, and they were handed over to the Klang Selatan police on Wednesday for further investigation.
Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said the Port Klang Customs officer had lodged a report at the Pandamaran police station after being informed by his children that their house was doused with paint by two unknown men who wore full-faced helmets.
The officer believes that the incident may be due to his work as a Customs personnel member, but does not suspect anyone, as he does not owe anything to any un-licenced money lenders.
In the Putrajaya incident, a pre-dawn fire engulfed a Mercedes Benz and a Perodua Myvi belonging to the family of Customs senior assistant director Nor Azman Mat Jini, 59, who is attached to the GST division.
Two other vehicles, a Proton Saga and a Honda CRV, were partially damaged.
Nor Azman; his wife, Noor Hayati Khairuddin, 57; their daughter and son-in-law, as well as their two grandchildren, aged 2 and 6, were asleep when the fire broke out.
Police found the head of a hammer on the hood the Mercedes Benz which was completely destroyed in the 3.30am fire; as well as a lighter on the floor at the scene.
