Senior police officer arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen car

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior police officer was detained under suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle in Sabak Bernam on Friday.

The 34-year-old officer was nabbed by the Federal police Integrity and Standard Compliance Department’s (ISCD) operation division at Sabak Bernam district police headquarters around 6.30am.

It is understood that the arrest was the result of ISCD surveillance on the officer’s possession of a Toyota Estima, which was reported missing in Butterworth, Penang in 2013.

Selangor state police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor when confirming the case, said inspection at the officer’s house led to the discovery of the vehicle, which was later seized by the raidin team.

"The team arrested the officer after he failed to show proof of vehicle ownership.

"He was however tested negative for drugs," he said.

Mazlan stressed that Selangor police will not compromise when it comes to any police officers found involved in criminal activities.

"Stern action will be taken against the policeman if they are found to have violated the law," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
