After three days of detention, Sofi Jikan set for release [NSTTV]

PETALING JAYA: Actor Sofi Jikan is set to be released under police guarantee today following three days of detention as part of an investigation into alleged drug abuse after he tested positive for marijuana.

Police confirmed that the remand order for the 48-year-old – whose real name is Mohamad Shoffi Jikan – will not be extended, as his statement was already taken on Wednesday.

Sofi is being investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and faces a maximum jail term of two years, or a maximum fine of RM5,000, or both, and a supervisory order of up to three years if found guilty.

The actor arrived at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex in a police patrol MPV at about 10.10am, before he was taken to the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters’ (IPD) Narcotics Criminal Investigation Office.

Sofi has yet to emerge from the Office, where his release is being processed – but a crowd of media representatives is awaiting him outside the premises.

The actor, known for his antagonistic on-screen characters, was arrested at the Mutiara Damansara Police Station at 11am on Tuesday while providing a statement related to two police reports made by actor Datuk Farid Kamil Zahari, 37, on Jan 31.

In his report, Farid Kamil alleged that three fellow actors had spiked his drink with drugs.
