Housewife sentenced to five days jail and RM8K fine for criminal intimidation

KULIM: A magistrate’s court here sentenced a housewife to five days’ jail and RM8,000 fine for threatening a woman two years ago.

Magistrate R Manomani meted the decision at the end of the defence case today, after the court found that the accused had failed to raise reasonable doubt to the charge made against her.

R Samundiswari, 34, was calm when the sentence was read to her.

She was charged with criminally intimidating B Sri Pracha Nanthini, 39, at a polyclinic belonging to Pracha’s husband at Jalan Tunku Abidah, here.

The incident occurred at 3.40pm on June 4, 2016 after the housewife's request for treatment to be given not in accordance to the sequence of numbers was denied.

She was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code and if guilty could face a maximum two years’ jail or fine or both.

Lawyer RSN Rayer represented the accused while the case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Tan Sew Ping.

Rayer asked the court for a stay of execution for the sentences pending an appeal to the High court.

Manomani allowed a stay for the jail sentence but ordered the accused to pay the RM8,000 fine, or in default six months’ jail.
