SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam court bailiff today seized office equipment from the administrative offices of Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) in Plaza Masalam in a bid to recover part of some RM14 million in rental owed to the Al-Madinah International Foundation since June 2013.
The bailiff took close to three hours to write an inventory of the items in MEDIU offices located on the 8th, 11th and 14th floor of the building following a writ of seizure and sale (WSS) order obtained by the foundation.
The items listed in the Notice of Seizure and Inventory had yet to be determined at press time.
It came after the failure of MEDIU to settle the RM14,643,102.50 in monthly rental arrears owed to the foundation from June 2013 till now which was to be paid within seven days as ordered by Sessions Court judge Noor Ruzilawati Mohd Nor in a summary judgment delivered on Sept 27 last year.
Foundation general manager Datuk Bahrudin A. Rahman said they had inked a rental agreement with MEDIU for a 14-floor building in Batu 3 here in June 2013.
“The agreement is renewable every two years and MEDIU had also paid a deposit as a sign of their commitment. However, there is an alleged miscommunication in the MEDIU management where they were ill-advised and told there was no need to pay the rental.
“We initiated legal action and the summary judgment was delivered. However, there has been inaction from MEDIU after the summary judgment and it has led to the execution of the WSS today,” said Bahrudin.
Also present was the foundation’s counsel Siti Nadiah Skh Saad.
Meanwhile, MEDIU legal adviser Syed Hashim Ahmad Al-Qudsi said he was baffled over the action of the foundation.
“We have been given the judgment for full settlement of the RM14 million debt that is payable in 12 installments.
“Monthly we have to pay RM1.2 million starting from March 7.
“So since the court has given the order, why is this necessary? The court has also furnished them (the foundation) the full judgment.
“I will consult our counsel on the next course of action,” Syed Hashim said.
