Kelantan cops seize 16 pistols from January to November

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have confiscated 16 different types of pistols so far this year compared to nine during the same period last year.

Kelantan state police chief, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun, said that of the 16 cases, 14 had been charged in court.

He said most of the seized firearms were used for drug trafficking and criminal activities and, as such, the police will focus more on enforcement, especially in border areas, and find the best methods to tackle the problem, including conducting raids and roadblocks.

"We will continue to cooperate and exchange information with the Thai authorities. We will tighten border controls," he told a press conference today (November 7).

Muhamad Zaki also called on border enforcement agencies to watch out for the smuggling of firearms after learning that they are being bought from neighbouring countries and imported through illegal bases. --BERNAMA
