3 men arrested in raids at illegal public lottery and gambling outlets in Shah Alam

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor police today raided three illegal public lottery and gambling outlets operating in Shah Alam and arrested three men, believed to be the bookies.

The raids were conducted by the Selangor Anti-Vice, Gaming and Secret Societies Division (D7) as part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on illegal lottery and gambling.

Selangor D7 administration officer Deputy Superintendent Norhizam Bahaman said the raids were conducted at two premises in Taman Sri Muda and at another one in Jalan Serai Wangi J16/J Alam Avenue Persiaran Selangor, Sek 16, starting at 4.30pm.

"Police arrested three men, including a Bangladeshi, who are believed to be the caretakers of the outlets and seized calculators, data printers, mobile phones as well as RM311 in cash," he said.

Norhizam said police also found papers which were printed with the lottery numbers at all three premises and gathered them as evidence from the scene.

He said the first raid at Jalan Ria 25/62 and the second at Jln Mesra 25/66 Taman Sri Muda were conducted at 5.05pm. Then the team raided the third outlet at 6pm in Jalan Serai Wangi J16/J where the Bangladeshi was picked up.

"All those who were arrested were taken back to the police headquarters and will be investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gambling House Act 1953 for illegally assisting in carrying out a public lottery," he said.
