Investigation papers on Namewee video on way to A-G: IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have wrapped up their probe of Namewee's controversial Like A Dog video, and will be handing over the investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers soon.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said they have completed their probe into the four reports against the provocative rapper, whose remand ends today.

"We will send the papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and see if there will be any further instructions for us on the case," he said at a press conference after the Bukit Aman Monthly Assembly at the Federal Police Headquarters here today.

Last week, Namewee uploaded the Chinese New Year-themed music video, in which he and other individuals dance “indecently” in front of the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.

The viral video earned the ire of many quarters, with some urging the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the rapper.

On Thursday, Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said that Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, had been arrested to facilitate a probe into the video.

The rapper was detained at the Federal Police Headquarters after his statement on the video was recorded earlier that day, and was remanded for four days.
