Russian tourist robbed by Ipoh snatch thief; suspect nabbed 2 hours later

IPOH: A Russian tourist fell victim to a snatch thief near Taman Dr Seenivasagam, Jalan Raja Musa Aziz here yesterday.

The tourist immediately lodged a police report that his bag was snatched at 2am by a man riding a motorcycle at Medan Istana Bandar Ipoh Raya.

Police were quick to act on the case, and successfully apprehended the suspect just two and a half hours later.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby said that the 42-year-old suspect, who was riding a Honda Wave, was apprehended by a team of policemen on patrol at 4.20am.

"When examining the suspect’s sling bag, police discovered a Russian passport, a Huawei mobile phone and a blue security guard uniform belonging to the Russian tourist,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Ali added that the man was detained and will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code. – BERNAMA
