Two friends charged with murdering man at Sungai Petani motel

SUNGAI PETANI: Two suspects in the Sungai Petani motel murder were charged at the magistrate’s court today with murdering a man on March 4.

The suspects, M Rinishwaran, 19, and Sharudin Hassan Sha, 31, merely nodded their heads when the charge was read to them before magistrate Adibah Husna Zainal.

However, no plea was recorded from the duo.

The two friends were jointly charge with murdering E Muniandy, 53, at LA Motel, Jalan Kelab Cinta Sayang, Taman Bandar Baru, here.

Rinishwaran, clad in a red and black t-shirt, and Sharudin, in grey t-shirt, were alleged to have committed the offence between 6.10pm and 9.45pm.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code that carries maximum death penalty upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Rifaei Mohamed Riyaludin prosecuted while the duo were not represented

Adibah fixed April 24 for mention.

No bail was allowed for the two suspects.

It was reported that Muniandy's body was found in a budget hotel in Taman Bandar Baru on March 4.

The victim from Kajang, Selangor had arrived at the hotel at 6pm with the two suspects, however, at 8pm staff at the hotel heard a commotion coming from the room before the two suspects were seen leaving the hotel in a rush.

The duo was detained six hours after the incident, based on the hotel’s closed circuit television recording.

Police established the motive of the murder due to a stolen mobile phone.
