Jobless man charged with double murder of parents

KUALA LUMPUR: A jobless man was expressionless when he was hauled to court today for the brutal murder of his elderly parents at their Sungai Penchala home last Saturday.

Afendi Muhammad Agus @ Muhamed Ali,42, nodded to indicate he understood the charge read to him before magistrate Wong Chai Sia.

No plea was recorded and bail was not allowed. The accused was unrepresented.

According to the charge sheet, he was accused of murdering his father Muhammad Agus@ Muhamed Ali Omar, 82, and his mother Darlisma Njatu Saleh, 72.

The offence was committed at their home in Kampung Sungai Penchala, Jalan Penchala Hilir under the Brickfields district on Dec 9 between 7.10pm and 7.20pm.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty. Deputy public prosecutor Vivien Yeap Jie Xi prosecuted.

The court fixed Jan 31 for mention.

The accused was arrested for the alleged murders at the Sprint Highway Penchala Tunnel at 10.30pm on the same day.

Police had received reports of a fight and found the couple lying in a pool of blood in the house with multiple stab wounds.

The accused has a history of nine drug related cases and was reportedly on out bail at the time of the incident.
