Ampang PKR Youth chief to enter defence on Wed for giving false statements to MACC [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Ampang PKR Youth chief Datuk Adam Rosly Abdullah who was charged with giving false statements and forged documents to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will enter his defence at the Sessions Court on Wednesday.

Judge Allaudeen Ismail made the order after finding that the prosecution had proved a prima facie case against the 31-year-old businessman.

“Upon a maximum evaluation of the evidences by witnesses as well as the documents and submissions by the prosecution, the court finds that there is a prima facie case against the accused,” the judge said.

He fixed three days beginning April 4 for Adam to defend himself.

On April 21, last year, Adam was charged with six counts of providing false statements and forging documents when he was interviewed by MACC officers in the course of their investigations into his wealth and purchase of a luxury bungalow in Ampang on Feb 10 and Feb 22, of the same year.

The offences under Section 32(8)(c) and Section 89 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001carry a maximum of five years’ jail, RM5 million fine or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib prosecuted while the accused was represented by counsel Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Zainal and Datuk Sulaiman Ismail.
