GEORGE TOWN: Police today recorded a statement from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to assist their investigation into allegations that he had indoctrinated children with ‘politics of hate’ during the recent launch of a tuition centre in the state.
Two police officers from the Northeast District Commercial Crime Investigation Department were seen entering Lim’s office in Komtar at 2.15pm.
They then proceeded to record Lim’s statement. The chief minister was accompanied by his lawyer R.S.N. Rayer.
A source said the statement was recorded to finalise investigation into the matter under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.
“We recorded statements from several people in connection with the matter. We are in the midst of wrapping up our investigation,” said the source.
Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, had been accused of spreading politics of hate and indoctrinating children at the launch of the Penang People’s Tuition Centre.
A 32-second video of Lim singing and dancing while mocking the Goods and Services Tax, sung to the tune of the ‘A,B,C’ nursery rhyme, went viral recently and triggered a string of police reports.
