Man burns down in-law's house [NSTTV]

KUALA TERENGGANU: A man allegedly burned down his in-law's house in Kampung Mengabang Panjang, Batu Rakit, Kuala Nerus, yesterday after a tiff with his wife.

The 38-year-old fisherman was said to have been furious that his wife had asked for divorce following an argument.

Police said the couple had a fight at their own home nearby at 4.45pm. The fire was said to have started about 6pm.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abd Rafar said after the argument, the man's wife went to Bukit Rakit police station to lodge a police report.

"While at the police station, we were informed that her house was on fire.

"A police team was then rushed to the village and detained the man to assist our investigation."

It was believed after the argument, the man had gone to his in-law's house to look for his wife.

Idris said the man was also tested positive for drugs.

He said police have obtained a four-day remand order on the man today, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for causing mischief with fire.

He said no one was hurt in the fire incident.
