Husband hacked to death by wife's boyfriend

TAWAU: A love triangle saw a husband being hacked to death by his wife’s boyfriend at a house in Block 03, Kampung Murai, Ladang Kretam, near here, yesterday morning.

In the 11am incident, the victim, Amir Mappiase, 35, died of serious injuries after being hacked in his neck.

Tawau OCPD, Assistant Commissioner Fadil Marsus, said they received a call from the estate manager where the victim worked as a worker, after his blood covered body was found at 1.15pm.

He said initial investigations revealed that the victim had just returned home, when he stumbled upon the wife and the boyfriend at home and subsequently a fight broke out between both men.

“The suspect aged 21-year-old is said to have hacked the victim in his neck with a parang and then escaped through the back door into the oil palm estate,” he said in a statement today.

He said based on the information and assistance of local villagers, a team of policemen from the Kalabakan police station managed to arrest the suspect in an estate some two kilometres from where the incident took place.

Fadil said they also retrieved three parang measuring 44, 53 and 70 centimetres respectively from the suspect.

He added that the victim from Indonesia had been working in the estate for the last nine years, whereas the suspect has been working in the estate for the last one year.

The women at the centre of the love triangle had fled the scene following the incident.

Fadil said they are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
